Raymond Clayborn, born on January 2, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas, is a former professional American football cornerback renowned for his impactful performance in the National Football League (NFL) during the 1970s and 1980s. He played college football at the University of Texas at Austin before being selected in the first round of the 1977 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Clayborn quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the Patriots' defense, known for his exceptional coverage skills and playmaking ability.
Throughout his 12-year NFL career, Clayborn achieved significant milestones, including being named to the Pro Bowl three times (1980, 1981, and 1985) and earning a spot on the NFL All-Rookie Team in 1977. He recorded a total of 36 interceptions, ranking him among the top interceptors in league history at the time of his retirement. Clayborn was also an integral part of the Patriots' 1985 Super Bowl team, contributing to their journey to Super Bowl XX.
