He played primarily as a forward and is best known for his time with Grêmio, where he won multiple state and national championships. His playing career spanned from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, during which he also had stints with clubs such as Flamengo, the New York Cosmos, and a brief period in Italy’s Serie A with the club Genoa.
Throughout his playing career, Gaúcho achieved significant success, highlighted by his contributions to Grêmio’s victories in the 1983 Copa Libertadores and the 1983 Intercontinental Cup.
