Rick Bowness, born on January 25, 1955, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, is a former professional ice hockey player and a distinguished coach. Bowness played as a defenceman in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1975 to 1984, representing teams such as the Atlanta Flames, Detroit Red Wings, and the Winnipeg Jets. Although his playing career was modest, he carved out a niche in the league, becoming known for his leadership and hockey IQ.
Transitioning to coaching after his playing days, Bowness has held various assistant and head coaching roles in the NHL. He started his coaching career in the mid-1980s and eventually became the head coach of the Winnipeg Jets, as well as serving with notable franchises, including the Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
