Rick Majerus (February 17, 1948 – December 1, 2012) was an esteemed American basketball coach and analyst, known for his innovative coaching style and strong emphasis on defense. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Marquette University before becoming the head coach at the University of Utah in 1989. Under his leadership, Utah achieved significant success, culminating in a trip to the NCAA Championship game in 1998.
During his tenure at Utah, Majerus led the Utes to a remarkable 23 consecutive postseason appearances. His teams were known for their disciplined play and strategic depth, which contributed to his overall record of 517 wins and 215 losses across various coaching positions.
