Biography
Rick Meagher, born on November 2, 1953, in Ontario, Canada, is a former professional ice hockey player recognized for his versatility and tenacity on the ice. A standout player during his junior years with the Toronto Marlboros, Meagher was drafted in the 4th round of the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft by the St. Louis Blues. He made his NHL debut in the 1975-76 season and went on to play for several teams, including the New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings.
Over his 14-year NHL career, Meagher became known for his strong two-way play and leadership qualities. He played in a total of 942 regular-season games, scoring 219 goals and recording 302 assists, and he significantly contributed to teams as both a forward and a penalty killer. A respected figure in the locker room, he served as team captain for the New Jersey Devils and was a key contributor during the franchise’s development in the 1980s.
