Robert Todd Pelinka Jr., commonly known as Rob Pelinka, was born on December 23, 1969, in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the University of Michigan, where he played college basketball for the Wolverines, excelling as a shooting guard. Pelinka was a key member of the team that reached the NCAA Championship game in 1989, earning recognition for his skills on the court.

Following his college career, Pelinka was selected in the second round of the 1997 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. He played briefly in the league with the Bulls and also had stints in international leagues, where he continued to hone his basketball expertise. Pelinka transitioned to a successful career as a sports agent, representing notable NBA players including Kobe Bryant.

In 2017, Pelinka was appointed as the general manager and vice president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers.
