Rod Martin, born on April 7, 1954, in the United States, is a former professional American football linebacker known for his impactful career in the National Football League (NFL). Martin played college football at the University of Southern California (USC) where he was part of a highly successful team and showcased his defensive prowess. He was selected in the fourth round of the 1977 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders.
During his tenure with the Raiders from 1977 to 1988, Martin became renowned for his key contributions to the team's defense, particularly during their Super Bowl runs. He played a pivotal role in the Raiders’ victory in Super Bowl XV in 1981, where he recorded an interception, helping solidify his reputation as a clutch performer in high-stakes situations. Over his career, Martin amassed a total of 1,162 tackles and 11 interceptions, making him one of the franchise’s all-time greats.
