Biography
Ron Hextall, born on May 3, 1964, in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, is a former professional ice hockey goaltender and current executive. He played the majority of his NHL career with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he is best known for his aggressive playing style and exceptional puck-handling skills. Hextall was drafted by the Flyers in the sixth round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft and made his debut during the 1986-87 season.
Throughout his career, Hextall garnered significant recognition for his outstanding performance, including winning the Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender in 1987. He became the first goaltender in NHL history to score a goal by shooting the puck into the opponent's net during a playoff game in 1987, showcasing his unique ability to play the puck. Hextall later played for the Quebec Nordiques, New York Islanders, and Los Angeles Kings before retiring in 1999.
Following his playing career, Hextall transitioned into management, serving as a goaltending coach and later as the assistant general manager for the Flyers. He was appointed general manager of the Flyers in 2014 and has been recognized for his contributions to the team's roster development and long-term strategy.
