Born on July 23, 1973, in Atlanta, Georgia, she demonstrated remarkable talent at an early age, eventually earning a scholarship to play at the University of Georgia. During her collegiate career, she led her team to multiple NCAA tournament appearances and garnered several individual accolades, including All-American honors.
After graduating in 1995, Carter was drafted by the WNBA's expansion team, the Portland Fire, where she quickly made a name for herself as a versatile guard. Over her professional career, she played for multiple teams, including the New York Liberty and the Houston Comets, winning two WNBA championships. In addition to her club success, Carter was also a member of the USA Women's National Basketball Team, contributing to their gold medal victory at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
