Rudi Koertzen, born on March 26, 1949, in Despatch, South Africa, was a prominent cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer. He represented Eastern Province in domestic cricket and made his debut for the first-class team in 1972. Koertzen transitioned from playing to officiating, where he would become renowned for his accuracy and distinctive style.

Koertzen's international umpiring career spanned from 1992 to 2010, during which he officiated in over 400 international matches, including 108 Test matches, 209 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 14 Twenty20 Internationals.
