Ryan Smyth, born on February 21, 1976, in Banff, Alberta, Canada, is a retired professional ice hockey player known for his tenacity and leadership as a left winger. He was selected sixth overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, beginning a notable 19-season career in the National Hockey League (NHL). Smyth quickly established himself as a key player for the Oilers, becoming known for his goal-scoring ability and effectiveness on the power play.
