Sami Helenius is a Finnish former professional ice hockey player born on January 22, 1974, in Mikkeli, Finland. Known for his strong defensive play, he primarily played as a defenseman throughout his career. Helenius began his professional journey in the Finnish leagues before making a transition to North America, where he competed in both the National Hockey League (NHL) and the American Hockey League (AHL).
Helenius was drafted 135th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. He played a total of 28 NHL games, primarily with the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 1998-1999 season.
