Sanath Kaluperuma, born on October 22, 1961, in Sri Lanka, is a prominent former cricketer known for his explosive batting style and significant contributions to Sri Lankan cricket. He made his international debut in 1989 and quickly established himself as a key player in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Test cricket. His aggressive approach at the top of the order transformed the way the game was played in Sri Lanka, earning him a reputation as one of the greatest openers in the sport.
Kaluperuma was a pivotal member of the Sri Lankan squad that won the 1996 Cricket World Cup, where his performances in crucial matches, including a superb innings in the final, were instrumental in securing the title. Throughout his career, he amassed over 12,000 runs in ODIs and made significant contributions in Test matches, becoming one of the first players to reach the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs.
