Born on December 12, 1980, in San Diego, California, he played college basketball at the University of Arizona, where he was a key contributor to the Wildcats' 1997 NCAA Championship team. Burroughs was selected in the first round of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons.

During his NBA career, Burroughs played for several teams, including the Detroit Pistons, New Orleans Hornets, and the Seattle SuperSonics.
