He attended the University of Miami, where he became a standout safety for the Miami Hurricanes, earning consensus All-American honors in 2003. Following a successful college career, Taylor was selected by the Washington Redskins as the fifth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.

Throughout his four-year professional career with the Redskins, Taylor emerged as one of the most dominant safeties in the league.
