Shaka Smart, born on April 8, 1977, in Madison, Wisconsin, is a notable American basketball coach and former player. He played college basketball at Kenyon College and later transitioned into coaching, beginning his career as an assistant coach at several institutions before achieving prominence as the head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
Smart gained national recognition during his tenure at VCU from 2009 to 2015, culminating in a remarkable run to the Final Four in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, where the team, as an 11-seed, became the first of its kind to reach that stage in recent history.
