Stephen Gionta, born on October 9, 1983, in Rochester, New York, is a former professional ice hockey player known for his tenacity and leadership on the ice. A product of the NCAA, Gionta played college hockey at Boston College, where he was part of the team that won the 2001 NCAA Championship. He went undrafted in the NHL but began his professional career with the Albany River Rats in the American Hockey League (AHL) after signing with the New Jersey Devils organization.
