Biography
Steve Payne, born on August 16, 1958, in St. Catharines, Ontario, is a former professional ice hockey player known for his scoring prowess and versatility on the ice. He began his junior career with the Niagara Falls Flyers in the Ontario Hockey Association, where his impressive performance caught the attention of scouts. Payne was subsequently drafted in the third round, 48th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1978 NHL Entry Draft.
During his NHL career, which spanned from 1979 to 1986, Payne played primarily as a left winger for the Buffalo Sabres. He achieved notable success, most prominently during the 1981-82 season, when he recorded a career-high 40 goals and 71 points, showcasing his skills as both a goal scorer and playmaker.
