Steve Pikiell, born on November 21, 1967, in the United States, is a former basketball player and current head coach, notable for his contributions to collegiate basketball. Pikiell played as a guard and had a distinguished college career at the University of Connecticut from 1986 to 1990, where he was a pivotal member of the team. He graduated with a degree in sociology and began his professional career playing in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and overseas before transitioning into coaching.

Pikiell's coaching career began in 1993, and he quickly built a reputation for his defensive strategies and player development. He gained prominence as the head coach at Stony Brook University from 2016, where he led the Seawolves to unprecedented success, including the program's first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2016.
