Biography
Steve Tambellini, born on May 14, 1958, in Trail, British Columbia, is a former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) primarily as a right winger. Selected in the first round of the 1978 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders, Tambellini spent the majority of his playing career with the Islanders and the Vancouver Canucks. He was known for his competitive edge and scoring ability, contributing significantly to his teams during the regular season and playoffs.
Throughout his NHL career, which spanned from 1978 to 1990, Tambellini played in over 600 games, amassing more than 200 goals and 300 points. His time with the Islanders included a key role in their run to four consecutive Stanley Cup championships from 1980 to 1983. After his playing career, Tambellini transitioned into coaching and management, ultimately serving as the general manager of the Edmonton Oilers from 2008 to 2013.
