Sunil Gavaskar, born on July 10, 1949, in Mumbai, India, is a former international cricketer and one of the finest opening batsmen in the history of cricket. He made his Test debut for the Indian national team in 1971 against West Indies, quickly establishing himself as a formidable player known for his technique and concentration. Gavaskar was the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, achieving this milestone during his illustrious career.
Throughout his career, which spanned from 1971 to 1987, Gavaskar recorded 34 Test centuries and played a pivotal role in several of India's significant victories, including the famous series win against the West Indies in 1971. He was acclaimed for his performances in challenging conditions and was particularly successful against fast bowlers.
