Biography
Sven Butenschön, born on March 22, 1976, in Tofino, British Columbia, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He began his junior career in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) before moving to the United States to play NCAA hockey at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Butenschön went on to be drafted 223rd overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, marking the beginning of a noteworthy professional career.
Butenschön played for several teams in his career, primarily in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the International Hockey League (IHL). He made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut with the New Jersey Devils during the 1999-2000 season, where he was part of the roster that eventually won the Stanley Cup. Over the course of his career, he also played for the Atlanta Thrashers and had notable stints in Europe, including leagues in Germany and Austria.
