Tara VanDerveer, born on June 26, 1953, in Melrose, Massachusetts, is a renowned American basketball coach and former player, best known for her successful tenure as the head coach of the Stanford University women’s basketball team. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1975, where she played for the Minutewomen and later took her first coaching position at the University of Idaho.
Under her leadership, Stanford’s women’s basketball program has achieved remarkable success, including two NCAA Championships in 1990 and 2021, multiple Final Four appearances, and numerous Pac-12 Conference titles.
