Thom Gatewood, born on March 7, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri, is a former professional American football wide receiver who played in the National Football League (NFL). He gained prominence as a standout athlete at the University of Notre Dame, where he set multiple records, including being the first player in school history to amass over 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. Gatewood's collegiate performance earned him recognition as an All-American and laid the groundwork for his professional career.
Drafted in the fifth round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, Gatewood made an immediate impact in the league, showcasing his speed and agility.
