Biography
Tom Kurvers, born on October 14, 1962, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a former professional ice hockey defenseman who enjoyed a successful career in the National Hockey League (NHL). After playing college hockey for the University of Minnesota-Duluth, he was selected in the eighth round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. Kurvers made his NHL debut during the 1984-85 season, showcasing his offensive skills and earning a reputation as a talented playmaker.
Throughout his NHL career, Kurvers played for several teams, including the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Buffalo Sabres, and the Minnesota North Stars, among others. He achieved notable success in the 1986 Stanley Cup playoffs, contributing to the Canadiens' championship victory. In addition to his Stanley Cup win, Kurvers was recognized for his individual talents, earning a spot in the 1986 NHL All-Star Game.
Following his retirement as a player, Kurvers transitioned into a successful career in hockey management and coaching. He served in various capacities, including as an assistant coach and director of player development for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
