Biography
Tony Sparano (October 7, 1961 – July 22, 2018) was a prominent American football coach and player, best known for his successful tenure as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2008 to 2011. Born in West Haven, Connecticut, Sparano played college football at the University of New Haven before embarking on a coaching career that included positions at various colleges and NFL teams. He gained recognition for his ability to develop offensive lines and foster effective running games, which contributed to his teams' successes.
During his coaching career, Sparano served as the offensive line coach for several NFL teams, including the Washington Redskins and the Buffalo Bills, before being named the interim head coach of the Dolphins in 2008. Under his leadership, the Dolphins achieved a remarkable turnaround, improving from a 1-15 record in 2007 to an 11-5 season in 2008, earning him the NFL Coach of the Year award.
