Vern Den Herder is a former professional American football player who was born on November 28, 1948, in Sioux Center, Iowa. He attended Sioux Center High School and went on to play college football at Dordt College. Den Herder was selected in the 10th round of the 1970 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins, beginning his professional career in the National Football League (NFL).
Throughout his career, Den Herder was primarily known as a defensive end, contributing significantly to the Dolphins’ defense during their dominant years in the early 1970s. He played a key role in the team's perfect season in 1972, which culminated in a Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl VII. Den Herder appeared in a total of 121 games over his nine-season career, establishing himself as a reliable and tough competitor on the field.
