Walt Hazzard, born on April 15, 1942, in South Los Angeles, California, was a prominent American basketball player recognized for his exceptional skills during the 1960s. He played college basketball at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was a key part of the Bruins' championship teams under coach John Wooden. Hazzard's success at UCLA propelled him to the professional ranks, as he was selected as the eighth overall pick in the 1964 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Throughout his NBA career, Hazzard played for the Los Angeles Lakers, the Seattle SuperSonics, and the Atlanta Hawks, showcasing a versatile playing style characterized by his scoring ability and playmaking skills.
