Wilfredo Gómez, born on October 29, 1956, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a former professional boxer who gained acclaim in the super bantamweight division. He began his boxing career in 1974 and quickly established himself as a formidable competitor, winning his first world title in 1977 by defeating the previously unbeaten Rodolfo Gato González. Throughout his career, Gómez was celebrated for his punching power and exceptional agility, earning recognition as one of the most dangerous fighters of his era.
During his boxing tenure, Gómez achieved significant milestones, including a record of 44 wins, with 42 by knockout, and only 3 losses. He held the WBC super bantamweight title from 1977 to 1983, defending it a remarkable 17 times, which was a record at the time.
