William Unseld (born March 28, 1946) is a retired American basketball player who is best known for his illustrious career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Baltimore and Washington Bullets. Selected second overall in the 1968 NBA Draft, Unseld quickly established himself as one of the league's premier players, earning the NBA Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards in the same season. His remarkable passing ability and tough rebounding made him a cornerstone of the Bullets' success.
During his 13-season career, Unseld was named to the All-Star team four times and was a key figure in leading the Bullets to their first NBA Championship in 1978. He was renowned for his exceptional defensive skills and was later recognized for his contributions to the game by being inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1988.
