Biography
Willie Desjardins, born on February 11, 1957, in Climax, Saskatchewan, Canada, is a former professional ice hockey player and coach. He played as a center and had a brief career in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the New York Rangers. Desjardins also made a significant impact in the Western Hockey League (WHL) as a player, where he was known for his leadership and competitive spirit.
Transitioning to coaching, Desjardins gained recognition for his success in junior hockey, notably leading the Medicine Hat Tigers to two WHL championships and the Memorial Cup in 2007. He subsequently served as an assistant coach in the NHL before taking on the head coaching role for the Vancouver Canucks from 2014 to 2017. Desjardins later became the head coach of the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he led the team to a Calder Cup championship in 2014.
