Zdeno Chára, born on March 18, 1977, in Trenčín, Slovakia, is a retired professional ice hockey player renowned for his imposing presence on the ice and leadership qualities. Standing at 6 feet 9 inches, Chára is one of the tallest players in NHL history and was drafted in the 3rd round, 56th overall, by the New York Islanders in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in the 1997-98 season and subsequently developed a reputation as a dominant defenseman known for his exceptional shot, physical play, and defensive capabilities.
Over his illustrious career, Chára played for several teams, most notably the Boston Bruins, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2011.
