Club History

Bournemouth AFC, commonly referred to as AFC Bournemouth, was established in 1899 and initially operated under the name Boscombe FC. The club played its early years in local leagues before joining the Southern League in 1910. In 1923, Boscombe changed its name to AFC Bournemouth, reflecting its location and seeking to strengthen its community identity.

Throughout the 20th century, AFC Bournemouth fluctuated between various divisions, achieving notable successes in the lower leagues. The club's significant achievement came in the late 1980s and early 1990s when it reached the Second Division, now known as the EFL Championship, under the management of Harry Redknapp. In 1990, Bournemouth recorded its highest-ever finish in the English football league system, placing 14th in the Second Division.

In the 2010s, Bournemouth experienced a remarkable rise, culminating in their promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 2015. Under the management of Eddie Howe, the team established itself in the top tier, securing a historic 9th-place finish in the 2016-17 season. The club is widely recognized for its strong community ties and youth development, contributing to its identity as a club rooted in the local area.
