Club History

The Houston Texans were established in 2002 as an expansion team in the National Football League (NFL), filling the void left by the Houston Oilers, who relocated to Nashville in 1997. The franchise was awarded to Houston as part of the league's expansion efforts, and the team began play in the 2002 season with head coach Dom Capers. The Texans' inaugural game took place on September 8, 2002, against the Dallas Cowboys, marking the return of the NFL to Houston.

Throughout their early years, the Texans struggled to find consistent success, finishing with a combined record of 28-36 from 2002 to 2006. However, the franchise began to establish its identity with the hiring of coach Gary Kubiak in 2006 and the drafting of key players, including star wide receiver Andre Johnson and defensive end J.J. Watt. The Texans made their first playoff appearance in the 2011 season, marking a significant milestone in the team's history.

The Texans achieved notable success in the early 2010s, winning the AFC South division title in 2011, 2012, and 2015. They reached the AFC Divisional Round in the playoffs multiple times, though they have yet to advance to the Super Bowl. Despite ups and downs in performance and challenges off the field, the Texans continue to be an integral part of Houston's sports landscape, maintaining a loyal fan base and a commitment to community involvement.
