Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators were founded in 1992 as part of the National Hockey League's (NHL) expansion efforts, re-establishing a franchise originally active from 1883 to 1934. The modern Senators quickly developed a competitive identity, reaching the playoffs in their third season and achieving their first playoff series victory in 1997. The team established a fan base that embraced the Senators’ resurgence, and they became a prominent fixture in Ottawa’s sports culture.

Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Senators regularly contended for playoff berths, highlighted by an appearance in the Stanley Cup Final in 2007, where they were ultimately defeated by the Anaheim Ducks. The team has seen significant individual player achievements, including multiple nominations for the Hart Trophy and Norris Trophy. The Senators have also been recognized for their strong community involvement and development of local hockey programs.

In recent seasons, the Senators have faced challenges in terms of performance. The team recorded similar results during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 NHL seasons with records of 23 wins and 28 losses, followed by a slight improvement in the 2021-22 season with 33 wins and 42 losses. Despite these struggles, the Senators continue to strive for a return to contention in the highly competitive NHL landscape, focusing on player development and building a cohesive team identity for future success.
